Celebrate pollinators with Jekka's

For the past 40 years we have followed sustainable and organic principles at Jekka's from the peat free compost to the organic feed. This has resulted in amazing biodiversity at the herb farm.

We encourage everyone to follow this approach when creating or maintaining their herb garden as it not only is important for the environment but it does you good.

You can read more about about sustainable approach in Jekka's blog and also, our Guide to Sustainable Gardening through the link below.

Grow herbs to save the bees

We are delighted to be joined by Jean Vernon for our next Open Days. In her latest blog for Jekka's, she says that "Flower power is real when it comes to saving the bees and other pollinators" and we couldn't agree more!

Most herbs produce flower and it is the nectar rich herb flowers that offer vital forage for adult pollinators. We advocate not only letting your herbs flower, but also growing a range of different flower types to account for the different length of pollinator tongues. Remember that pollinators do not just need flowers but also certain foliage to lay eggs.

Therefore, if you want more diversity of wildlife in your garden and local area, grow more and larger variety of plants. And if you want to save the pollinators; grow herbs! Read more through the link below.

Jekka's June Open Days

Fancy creating your own sustainable garden for pollinators? Then come along to our next Open Days!

Jekka's Open Days are a fabulous herb filled experience where you can explore Jekka's Herb Garden, have a slice or two of cake and buy some organically grown herbs for your garden.

At June Open Days we will also have our Basils available to buy! Read more in Jekka's blog "All about Basils" and find the Basil right for you! Can't make the Open Day? Check out our Basil seeds that are available via mail order.

As well as bee tours with Jean, Jekka will be giving her popular herb talks that are full of seasonal tips for growing herbs as well as stories from this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show!

If that wasn't enough, we will also have a stand from the Woodland Trust.
