Practical master class with Jekka

Learn how to collect, harvest and store seeds and propagate herbs in the autumn

At Jekka's, we grow herbs following sustainable and environmental methods and this involves harvesting seeds and growing herbs all year round. New for 2024 is Jekka's master class on how to get the most out of your herbs in autumn.

At Jekka's we champion harvesting your own seeds , which is increasingly important with climate change, as seeds might fail one year or plants might sadly not survive an unpredicted heat wave or down pour. Thereby having a store of seeds means you will be able to refresh and keep your bit of nature going each year. In the morning of this master class you will learn how to correctly harvest and store seeds from a variety of different herbs. By collecting, storing, drying and sometimes sharing your seeds, you are helping protect the future of plants.

Autumn is also a wonderful time to sow and propagate culinary herbs. Many of these herbs produce creeping rhizomes, such Mints, Sweet Woodruff, Tarragon, Horseradish and Liquorice. During the afternoon you will be shown how to take root cuttings from these or other herbs, which you can then take home and enjoy. This is a different propagation technique to those taught on Jekka's "How to Grow" Master Class.
